Maestro Sergey Smbatyan Acquitted, Attorney Says

Maestro Sergey Smbatyan has been acquitted. This was reported by attorney Yervand Varosyan on his Facebook page. He stated, ‘The criminal prosecution against Sergey Smbatyan has been terminated by the decision of the prosecutor of the Republic of Armenia’s General Prosecutor’s Office, based on the grounds that the act attributed to him was not committed by him.’

It is worth recalling that on July 30, it was announced that former ambassador Armen Smbatyan and his son, conductor Sergey Smbatyan, were arrested. Armen Smbatyan was charged under the first part of the third section of Article 38-178 of the Republic of Armenia's Criminal Code (as an organizer of especially large-scale fraud), while Sergey Smbatyan and businessman A.P. were charged under the first part of the third section of Article 178 (especially large-scale fraud).
