Fraud with Souvenir Banknotes Continues: Which Banknotes Have Been Counterfeited
The criminal investigators of the Aragatsotn Regional Police Department received operational information indicating that 36 and 37-year-old residents of Ejmiadzin were engaged in fraud involving souvenir banknotes.
On October 25, as a result of joint operational-search measures conducted by the Aragatsotn Regional Police, the Main Criminal Police Department, and the Malatia Police Department, the two were discovered and arrested while committing the fraud on Sebastia Street.
During the search of the 37-year-old man, four 100,000 drams and 50,000 drams, eight 10,000 drams, 18 20,000 drams, and one 100-dollar souvenir banknote were found.
A report was taken from a man who was a victim of their criminal activities. He informed law enforcement that the men had bought auto parts worth 200,000 drams from him using the souvenir banknotes. He also mentioned that to avoid raising suspicion, the men approached an ATM and pretended to withdraw banknotes from it.
A criminal case has been initiated, and the circumstances are being investigated.
