“Trials of Armenians in Baku Are Illegal and Staged,” Says Yeghishe Kirakosyan

The trials of Armenians in Baku are illegal and staged. This was stated today by Yeghishe Kirakosyan, the Armenian representative on international legal matters, during a conversation with journalists.

“It’s not just about Vagif Khachatryan, but also about our other captives—especially referring to the trials conducted in 2021. We have stated that these are illegal trials and staged,” he emphasized.

In this regard, according to Kirakosyan, the Armenian side has “an interstate complaint No. 2,” which pertains to gross violations of the rights related to the fundamental justice of our compatriots during the trials, or what is referred to as the concept of denial of justice.

“Unfortunately, the mechanisms of the European Court of Human Rights do not provide us with much, which limits our involvement despite the efforts we have made to request the release of those detained. However, we must continue our work in this direction as much as possible and also consider other possible means or steps to ensure more effective protection of our compatriots' rights,” Kirakosyan noted.

He also informed that currently, eight members of the leadership from Nagorno-Karabakh and numerous servicemen continue to remain detained in Baku’s prisons, though the exact number is difficult for Kirakosyan to specify.
