Information security expert Samvel Martirosyan has detailed the workings of viral scams on his Facebook page. He states, “It is indeed difficult to convince people of something when they see everything differently. Let’s take financial pyramids, for example. Those who get involved early on make a lot of money. The majority that follows after are far more than the lucky few who get in last. They invest their money and end up losing it. But until that moment arrives, everyone is content because they are indeed making super profits. And when you point out that they are involved in fraud, at least they get upset. Mostly, they curse and shout—I've received tons of messages like that after every incident. People don’t even realize they are complicit, as they involve their friends and relatives, and when those eventually get pulled in, they don’t understand that they share part of the blame for participating in the process of deceiving their close ones as happy, eager persuaders.

Or another example. Yesterday, I wrote that a program from Wildberries is spreading, which actually contains a dangerous component—a virus, so to speak. And again, it’s the same situation. Some say it’s not a virus at all, they are using it, and nothing happens. As if their phone should explode. Just, one day, money will disappear from their bank card, and they won’t even think it’s connected. Not to mention that people don’t realize that buying cheap from Wildberries is not a gift from the sky; they are being deceived by some seller who falls into unnecessary overhead costs. If this was done to a person, they would undoubtedly feel hurt, to put it mildly. But when it comes to a distant seller who is an ordinary person like themselves, they don’t think about that. What matters is that it’s cheap. And again, I get cursed at for not letting the public buy cheap products. It’s such bizarre behavior,” wrote the media expert.
