How Will the Pension Issue for Artsakh Residents Be Resolved? Clarification from the Armenian Prime Minister
The Government of Armenia has not deprived anyone of their pensions; however, the Republic of Armenia can provide pensions according to the procedures established by Armenian legislation. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this while responding to a question from Gegham Nazaryan, a member of the 'Armenia' parliamentary faction.
According to him, granting temporary protection status to those forcibly displaced from Artsakh will essentially ensure the resolution of this issue. 'This will create a legal basis for pursuing and protecting their property rights, after which they will receive Armenian citizenship in an expedited manner, and issues related to pensions and others will be resolved quickly upon application,' the Prime Minister said.
Addressing another question raised by the MP regarding our compatriots who are housed in shelters, which are provided to assist displaced Artsakh residents, he outlined the support currently given to a family of five from Artsakh. Each member receives 100,000 drams, and for the next six months, each person will receive 50,000 drams to meet their housing needs. Additionally, the five-member family will receive 50,000 drams (for each member) over the next two months for urgent needs.
Gegham Nazaryan asked whether the state recognizes that it owes a debt to Artsakh residents in providing them with permanent housing. The Prime Minister noted that the state has the same obligation to citizens of Armenia who do not have homes, have not received proper education, and other similar issues. 'Do not create a dichotomy, as the Government of Armenia has the same obligation to citizens of the Republic of Armenia,' Pashinyan emphasized.
