Guterres Denies Allegations of Justifying Hamas Attack on Israel
The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has denied allegations that he is justifying the Hamas attack on Israel. His remarks were reported by Reuters.
The Secretary-General indicated that he is shocked by the distortion of his statements. “That is false. Everything is different,” he stated, referring to the accusation that he is justifying Hamas's attacks.
He added that he wants to clarify, primarily out of respect for those who lost their lives during the attack.
Earlier, Guterres had stated that the Hamas attack on Israel did not occur without cause, noting that the Palestinian people have been under occupation for 56 years. Following this, Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, called for the organization’s leader Antonio Guterres to resign immediately.
