Mitsubishi Motors Decides to Halt Production in China
The Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors has decided to cease its production in China due to low sales volumes. This decision was announced in a statement published on the automaker's website.
As a result, Mitsubishi Motors will exit the joint venture with the Chinese GAC Group, which started operations in Hunan Province in 2012. Currently, there is no information available regarding the specific timeline for this process.
According to the Nikkei newspaper, the peak sales of vehicles produced by Mitsubishi Motors and GAC Group occurred in 2018 when the joint venture managed to sell approximately 140,000 vehicles in China. Subsequently, the relevant figures began to decline against the backdrop of the increasing popularity of electric vehicles and cars in the Chinese market. In this context, the company's factory operations were suspended in March 2023.
