Suspect in Attempted Murder Near Court Detained
A 40-year-old resident of Yerevan has been detained near the Ajapnyak courthouse after gunshots were fired. The information was reported by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
As previously stated, a criminal investigation into the attempted murder has been initiated. The charges have now been expanded to include illegal circulation of firearms, main components of firearms, military ammunition, and other related materials.
The suspect, identified as R.P., voluntarily appeared at the police station and provided a confession. The victim of the assault is S.V.
“Yerevan resident R.P. acquired a modified ‘Baikal-442’ rifled firearm and eight cartridges through illegal means at an unspecified time and circumstance. He learned that S.V. was to be at the Ajapnyak-1 courthouse of the Yerevan first instance court that day and went there. When S.V. exited the courthouse, R.P. fired four times, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the crime was not completed,” the statement reads.
It has also been established that the gunfire resulted in damage to a Mercedes-Benz vehicle parked in the court’s parking lot. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
It should be noted that the 40-year-old resident of Yerevan was detained on suspicion of attempted murder near the courthouse.
