“We follow the ancient principle: if you want peace, prepare for war,” says Putin

Putin made this comment regarding the proposal by a U.S. Congressional committee to prepare simultaneously for war with both Russia and China, including the consideration of nuclear confrontation options.

"I don’t think these are healthy ideas emerging in the minds of healthy people, because to say that the U.S. is preparing for war with Russia... We all are preparing for war because we follow the ancient principle: if you want peace, prepare for war, but we proceed from the fact that we want peace," emphasized Putin.
