VIDEO: Man Attacks Schoolchildren in France, Casualties Reported
A man armed with a knife attacked schoolchildren at a high school in northern France, resulting in the death of a female teacher, reports BFMTV, citing information from RIA Novosti.
The incident occurred around 11 am at the Gambetta high school in Arras, located in the Pas-de-Calais department. According to the television station, the teacher died on the spot from knife wounds. Several others were injured.
According to police sources, during the attack the assailant shouted 'Allahu Akbar'.
Later, France's Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin confirmed that the attacker had been arrested. It was revealed that he is a 20-year-old from Chechnya. BFMTV reported that the young man is listed among individuals posing a threat to national security. His brother was detained at another school, but no weapons were found with him.
It has been noted that the slain teacher taught literature. Among the injured are another teacher, who is in the intensive care unit, and a security staff member, whose condition is reported as critical. None of the students were harmed.
