Putin Announces Until When Peacekeepers Will Remain in Artsakh

Russian peacekeepers are officially set to remain in Nagorno-Karabakh until November 2025, with discussions to determine the future of their presence ongoing. This statement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a press conference summarizing the outcomes of his visit to Kyrgyzstan.

“Formally, our peacekeepers will remain there until November 2025, and we will certainly determine, through dialogue with our partners, what we will do in the near future. We will determine this during negotiations,” Putin stated.

The President of the Russian Federation noted that when the agreement was reached in 2020 regarding the presence of Russian peacekeepers in the region, their mandate was solely to monitor the ceasefire regime. “The status of Nagorno-Karabakh was not definitively determined, and when Armenia recognized that Karabakh was part of Azerbaijan, it later became clear that our peacekeepers are undoubtedly located within the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and of course, they remain so now. Frankly, the situation has completely changed after the severe events related to the emigration of the Armenian population,” the Russian President admitted.
