Preliminary Death Toll from Tragic Explosion in Artsakh Announced
In a tragic explosion in Artsakh, 212 citizens have reportedly lost their lives. This information was shared with MediaHub by a representative of the Artsakh Investigative Committee.
According to data gathered by the Investigative Committee and the Human Rights Defender's Office's fact-finding mission, 212 citizens have been confirmed dead from the explosion. Hundreds of citizens have been transferred to medical facilities in Armenia and abroad, with some in extremely critical condition.
As of October 4, some of the bodies recovered by Artsakh rescuers in the area have been identified, while 150 unidentified bodies are currently at the forensic examination bureau.
Reports suggesting that the Azerbaijani side transported the injured to Aghdam or Shushi after the explosion have been deemed inaccurate. Witnesses indicated that there were over 500 people in the area adjacent to the fuel depot owned by the Ministry of Defense, including women and children.
The initial theory suggests that the explosion and subsequent fire were a result of violations of safety regulations. It should be noted that this explosion occurred against the backdrop of military operations in September in Artsakh, the evacuation of casualties, the transfer of injured soldiers and civilians, and forced displacement. The unfortunate explosion took place on September 25 at a fuel depot.
