Marukyan on the Trial of Vagif Khachatryan
The abducted Vagif Khachatryan is being tried in Baku solely for the reason that he was born in Nagorno-Karabakh and lived on his ancestors' land. This was stated by Armenia's special envoy Edmon Marukyan on his microblog on X (formerly Twitter).
"The entire process is a farce and a mockery of the European Convention, a violation of international norms," he wrote. Marukyan urged Baku to stop humiliating people and to release all arrested Armenians.
Along with his post, he also shared a video from the trial.
It should be noted that today, a preliminary hearing took place at the Yasamal District Court in Baku regarding the case of Vagif Khachatryan, who was illegally abducted by Azerbaijani border guards while attempting to pass through the Lachin corridor into the Republic of Armenia.
The state prosecutor Mugades Sultanov requested that the case be referred to the court and that the measure of restraint against the defendant not be changed. The examination of the criminal case is scheduled for October 17.
Recall that Vagif Khachatryan has been accused in Azerbaijan of fictitious charges of allegedly committing "genocide" in the village of Meshali in the Khojaly region.
