International Partners Surprised by How Armenia has Addressed Needs of Displaced Artsakh Residents: Pashinyan

The Armenian government requires international financial assistance to support displaced residents of Artsakh, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a government session.

“Now, international partners are already expressing their readiness to assist Armenia in addressing the needs of the forcibly displaced. I emphasize this fact because, unfortunately, the history of humanity has always shown that in such situations, abuses are frequent. I specifically place this factor at the core of our future cooperation: transparency, accountability, and traceability of the process, so that no donor ever has doubts about where the money went; and in case of doubts, our relevant state bodies must ensure oversight,” he said.

According to Pashinyan, critics and detractors have constantly pointed out that the government lacks managerial skills and cannot manage processes. “I must note that the first signal we receive from all our international partners is as follows: they say, ‘We are surprised at how it is possible that within three days, 100,000 forcibly displaced refugees entered the country, and the government was able to meet their short-term needs.’ They say they do not remember a similar precedent,” the Prime Minister added.

Pashinyan thanked all those involved in supporting the people of Artsakh.
