4,600 Students Displaced from Artsakh to Receive Scholarships

4,600 students forcibly displaced from Artsakh will receive scholarships for studying in paid places at secondary and higher educational institutions. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan during a government meeting.

According to him, there are currently 2,100 displaced students pursuing higher education and 2,500 in vocational education.

The government conducted a study to determine the monthly tuition fees for various specialties at different educational institutions. The results showed that these fees range from 400,000 to 700,000 AMD.

“If a student chooses a university where our established amount or less is required, they will receive full compensation. If they choose a university where the fees exceed our provided amount, the student must cover the difference themselves. We provide the option to select an institution where government support will fully cover the tuition fee,” Khachatryan stated.

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, added that the scholarships would be sufficient for the state to fully reimburse students' tuition fees. “This means that there is no need for students to contribute additional funds, as realistic scholarship amounts have already been established,” she announced.

The minister mentioned that colleges and vocational schools operate in the regions of Armenia, allowing forcibly displaced students from Artsakh to choose the institution closest to them. Additionally, the Ministry has issued regulations for educational programs to ensure that there are no discrepancies or obstacles between the education received in Artsakh and that intended in Armenia.

Andreasyan noted that the scholarships provided by the government will be transferred electronically directly to the accounts of the educational institutions. “The student will select the educational institution, sign a contract, and the funds will be transferred to that institution,” she explained.

Addressing the situation of school-age children, the minister reported that more than 13,000 children are already attending school, which constitutes approximately 62% of the targeted group. “Every day, their numbers are increasing by several hours. By the middle of next week, we will be able to enroll all children forcibly displaced from Artsakh in schools,” Andreasyan assured.

According to her, additional batches of textbooks have already been ordered and will be provided to students free of charge.
