Contrary to Numerous Targeted Calls from the US, Artsakh has Essentially Experienced Ethnic Cleansing: Mirzoyan to Bonoian
Ararat Mirzoyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, met today with Luis Bonoian, the senior advisor for Caucasus negotiations and co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group from the United States.
“In addressing the establishment of lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus and the resolution process of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, Mirzoyan emphasized the necessity of restraining encroachments on Armenia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, and the requirement for Azerbaijan to constructively engage in the peace process, particularly in the absence of such encroachments,” the press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
Discussions also took place regarding the humanitarian challenges and the addressing of rights for the more than 100,000 forcibly displaced Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, as conveyed by the MFA.
Mirzoyan stressed that Nagorno-Karabakh has effectively undergone ethnic cleansing, contrary to the numerous targeted appeals from international partners, including the US. He pointed out that the failure to prevent the mass displacement of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh from their homeland in the 21st century once again underscores the necessity for concrete actions by international actors in such situations.
The American diplomat had meetings in Baku the day before.
