Why the Opposition Represented by the 'Republic' Signed a Memorandum with the CPP

Considering the serious regional, geopolitical, and internal challenges facing Armenia, the 'Republic' faction of the Yerevan City Council has signed a memorandum with the 'Civil Contract' faction to ensure that Yerevan is not left without governance. This was announced at a press conference by the faction leader Artak Zeynalyan.

It was previously reported that the 'Civil Contract' and 'Republic' factions of the Yerevan City Council signed a collaboration memorandum today, taking into account the results of the city council elections held on September 17.

In response to the question of why Yerevan residents had voted for the 'Republic' faction as the opposition, but now see them as part of the government, Zeynalyan stated, 'Opposition should not be confused with enmity, and disagreement should not be equated with harmfulness. We have never engaged in enmity or harm. No member of our party has declared against the reproduction of the government during the electoral campaign. We aimed to gain a majority; that is fair, legal, and honest... we have also stated who we will not form a coalition with. As for cooperation, we will collaborate with all members of the Yerevan City Council.'

Zeynalyan emphasized that while this may not be the ideal scenario, having authority is a better constitutional situation than not having it. Regarding whether there was a cost for officials to support the CPP, Zeynalyan remarked, 'A position is not a pie; it is a service, hard work, and taking on responsibility. Once again, I repeat: it is not a gift or a privilege granted to anyone. It is taking on responsibility. The 'Republic' party has decided to assume that responsibility.'

It is worth noting that earlier it was reported that Tigran Avinyan and Artak Zeynalyan signed the memorandum.
