Investigating the Death of Narek Nazaryan

The Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting an inquiry in the military investigative department’s third base investigative division to determine all circumstances related to the apparent murder of a conscript by a fellow serviceman.

On October 9, 2023, the Ministry of Defense reported that in a combat position located in the southeastern direction of a military unit, a conscript opened fire with a firearm, resulting in the death of his fellow serviceman, Private Narek Nazaryan, due to a fatal head injury.

In connection with the incident, a criminal case was initiated under the first part of Article 155 of the RA Criminal Code. Based on the results of investigative actions, the serviceman involved in the alleged crime has been arrested on grounds of reasonable suspicion.

The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
