Eyewitnesses have told the BBC that dozens of families have started to leave their homes. The Israeli military has stated that it targeted areas in Lebanon from which shots were fired toward Israel, according to Reuters. According to three sources from the agency, Israel began its counterattack after shells launched from Lebanon struck Israeli military positions in the city of Beersheba.

Lebanon's Hezbollah has officially claimed responsibility for the attacks on Israel, stating that it has launched rockets and mortar shells toward the Israel Defense Forces' bases. Videos are circulating on the internet, indicating that the Israeli army struck a Hezbollah tent complex set up on Mount Har Dov.
