"According to that, we will act": Scholz on the events in Israel
Germany will pay closer attention to Israeli government structures and Jewish cultural and religious institutions located within its territory. This was announced in Berlin by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during a special statement, according to TASS.
"We have strengthened the protection of Jewish and Israeli sites," he said. Scholz also condemned those who supported the actions of "radicals" during uncoordinated protests. Specifically, such an incident occurred yesterday in the Neukölln district of Berlin.
In addition, the chancellor stated that Germany supports Israel's right to self-defense and unequivocally condemns the actions of "Palestinian radicals." According to him, he had a phone conversation earlier with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and conveyed Germany's position.
"Israel's security is in Germany's national interests, according to that, we will act," he said.
Scholz also mentioned that he will discuss the situation in Israel with U.S. President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
