Second Batch of Treated Water Released into Ocean from Fukushima-1 Nuclear Power Plant
Julya
The second batch of treated water from the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant has begun to be released into the ocean. This was announced by the Japanese operator Tokyo Electric Power Company.
The new discharge will last for 17 days, similar to the first one, during which approximately 7,800 tons of mildly radioactive water will flow into the ocean. A total of four such procedures are planned by March 31, 2024.
Although most radioactive materials have been removed, the accumulated water still contains tritium, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen.
