Slovakia Elections Won by Party Opposing Aid to Ukraine

Slovakia's former Prime Minister Robert Fico's party, 'Direction – Social Democracy', is leading the elections with 22.94% of the votes counted after processing 99.98% of the ballots. According to BBC, earlier predictions had indicated a victory for the liberal 'Progressive Slovakia' party, but these forecasts proved to be incorrect. The party is now in second place with 17.96% of the votes, while the pro-European 'Hlas' party is in third place with 14.70%.

Notably, Fico's party has called for Slovakia's government to cease military supplies to Ukraine and has promised that if he becomes Prime Minister, Bratislava will not send weapons to Ukraine. He has also been strongly against NATO's membership for Ukraine.

Bratislava was the first to send 13 MiG fighters to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and provided munitions and artillery. Slovakia was also the first country to transfer air defense systems to Ukraine.
