What Status Will Residents of Artsakh Have in Stepanakert? - "Hraparak"
Despite tens of thousands of Artsakh residents being forcibly displaced to Armenia over the past few days, Russian peacekeepers are reportedly doing everything possible to ensure that at least 20,000 to 25,000 people remain in Artsakh. This presence is intended to facilitate the continuation of the peacekeeping mission in the region.
According to the newspaper "Hraparak,” upcoming negotiations will determine the status under which our compatriots will live in Stepanakert. Sources from Artsakh suggest that a representative of the so-called decapitated community may be appointed in agreement between the Russian and Azerbaijani sides, potentially Vitaly Balasanyan, who has expressed his intention to remain in Artsakh and is known for his skills in negotiating with Azerbaijan.
Reports indicate that since September 21, the President of Artsakh, Samvel Shahramanyan, has been engaged in intensive meetings with Azerbaijani representatives, who initially wanted to take control of the fate of Armenians remaining in Artsakh. However, during discussions, they were persuaded that under such circumstances, not a single Armenian would remain, leading to the decision that the Armenian community in Artsakh should have its own representative.
Meanwhile, the displacement of people will soon conclude, announcements regarding the dissolution of state institutions are expected, and those who remain will live under integration rules. According to some sources, peacekeepers are currently vowing to ensure the safety of remaining Artsakh residents at all costs, but few believe them after recent events.
