Turkey and Armenia Border Opening Dependent on Steps by Official Yerevan: Source
The normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia, including the issue of border opening, is entirely dependent on the steps taken by official Yerevan. This was announced in an interview with RIA Novosti by a source in the Turkish presidential office.
Recently, the newspaper "Hürriyet," citing its sources, reported that Armenia has proposed to Turkey to open the border for citizens of third countries, to which Ankara is not opposed.
“Regarding the normalization of our (Turkey's and Armenia's) relations, the actual process, within which meetings have taken place, we can only talk about subsequent steps when we see Yerevan's constructive, sincere, and peaceful approach. We are ready to continue negotiations,” the source stated.
The agency's interlocutor noted that a new situation has emerged in the region, creating broad opportunities for cooperation. “With such an approach, I believe we will see specific movements in this process, even regarding the border issue,” he said.
It is noteworthy that diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey do not exist, and the border has been closed since 1993 at Ankara's initiative.
