New York Court Finds Donald Trump Guilty of Fraud

A New York judge has found former U.S. President Donald Trump guilty of fraud. According to the judge's ruling, Trump inflated the value of his assets and the size of his wealth for ten years to secure loans under more favorable conditions. This was reported by Reuters.

The decision was made on September 26 by New York State Judge Arthur Engoron, based on a civil lawsuit filed against the former state leader and his three eldest children—Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Ivanka Trump—by New York Attorney General Letitia James in September 2022. Later, the lawsuit against Ivanka Trump was dismissed.

According to the judge's ruling, the licenses under which Trump's businesses operate in New York, including the Trump Organization, have also been revoked.

A trial is set for October 2, where the amount of damages to be paid by the defendant will be determined. Attorney General Letitia James is seeking a $250 million fine from Trump. In this civil lawsuit, Trump does not face the threat of imprisonment.

Former President Trump also faces criminal charges. He is accused of attempting to overturn election results in Georgia, violating rules regarding the handling of classified documents, and making payments to silence porn star Stormy Daniels, which led to the falsification of business records.

Trump asserts that all charges against him are politically motivated, aimed at hindering his candidacy in the presidential election scheduled for 2024.
