Meetings of Grigoryan and Hajiyeva to Take Place in Brussels: EU Confirms
The European Union will hold meetings in Brussels with representatives from Armenia, Azerbaijan, France, and Germany to discuss the current situation in the South Caucasus and prepare for a possible meeting between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan next week during the III Summit of the European Political Community in Granada, Spain. This was confirmed to reporters by a senior EU official, according to TASS agency.
“I can confirm that our Chief Diplomatic Advisor, Simon Mordue, will meet with senior diplomats from Armenia, Azerbaijan, France, and Germany, as well as the EU Special Representative for the region. This is being done to summarize the current situation and prepare for a possible meeting of the leaders in Granada,” he said.
It is worth noting that it was announced the day before that the Secretary of the Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, will make a working visit to the capital of Belgium, Brussels. According to the Armenian side's statement, a meeting of the Secretary of the Security Council with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, advisers to EU Council President Charles Michel, and assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, H. Hajiyev is scheduled for September 26 to prepare for the possible meeting of the leaders set for October 5 in Granada.
The III Summit of the European Political Community is expected to take place on October 5 in Granada, Spain. The previous two summits, held in Prague and Chișinău, featured meetings between Prime Minister Pashinyan and President Aliyev. In Prague, the format included Pashinyan, Aliyev, Macron, and Michel, while in the capital of Moldova, Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany joined the quartet. The planned meeting in Spain is also expected to be in a five-party format.
