Video: Armenia's Leadership is Adding Fuel to the Fire, Lavrov on the Situation in Artsakh

Armenia's leadership is adding fuel to the fire themselves. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a press briefing in New York, discussing Yerevan's policies regarding Nagorno-Karabakh.

He noted that while signing a document recognizing Azerbaijan's territorial integrity along the 1991 borders under the auspices of the EU, the Armenian authorities “forgot to mention the need to ensure the rights of the people of Artsakh.”

“When discussions began within Armenian society about the reasons for what happened, the Chairman of the National Assembly, Simonian, stated that Nagorno-Karabakh was 'given' to Azerbaijan by Putin in 2020. At that time, the focus was on the fact that Artsakh was within the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers, while the resolution of the status issue was postponed,” Lavrov said.

According to him, a powerful pro-American lobby operates in Armenia, as in several other countries. This was also evident during the previous protests led by Pashinyan.

“Moscow views this as artificially inflamed passions, knowing who is in control,” Lavrov added.
