Red Cross Cannot Bring Armenian Doctors to Artsakh, Lacks Such Functionality: Zara Amatuni
Today, 9 injured individuals were transferred and are already receiving medical assistance at the hospital in Stepanakert. We have also been able to supply the hospital with medical supplies. This was stated by Zara Amatuni, head of communication programs for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Armenia, during a conversation with reporters.
“We hope that in the near future, our support for both the transfer of patients and the scale of various humanitarian aid will continue. The Red Cross conducts confidential dialogues with the parties involved, and the purpose is to keep humanitarian issues in focus and find solutions,” said Amatuni.
Responding to the protest by Armenian doctors who were requesting the Red Cross to ensure their transfer to Artsakh to provide on-site medical assistance, Zara Amatuni stated: “Our organization cannot adopt such an approach; we work with the assistance of our specialists and cooperate with relevant authorities, but any decision is made with the agreement of the parties. Our operational approach means that we can only work with our staff.”
