What does it mean for him to become mayor, and us as opposition: Tevanyan to Marutyan

We are ready for any scenario; our proposals remain in effect, and we support Hayk Marutyan's proposal to hold snap elections. New elections are convenient for us, as they will provide a greater opportunity to corner the ruling party. This was stated by Andranik Tevanyan, the leader of the "Mother Armenia" alliance, in an interview with 24News.

Referring to Hayk Marutyan's initial proposal, which is to elect himself as mayor while "Mother Armenia" and "Public Voice" remain as the opposition, Andranik Tevanyan responded: "It was incomprehensible to me what it means for him to become mayor and us to be the opposition; it is an anti-political formulation, but he probably meant something else. In that case, it turns out that he should be the opposition to the ruling party, other parties, and the government. Then who will approve the budget of Yerevan if everyone is in opposition? In my opinion, he wanted to say something different."

Tevanyan emphasized that the most important thing for them is that the public's message reaches the point of changing power in Yerevan and then in Armenia. The logic of what they are saying is that a change in power is necessary in both Yerevan and Armenia. If someone wants to work as mayor, they will help with that, but there also needs to be agreement on the issue that a change in power in Armenia is essential, as they announced yesterday.

Tevanyan added that the ruling party was defeated with 236 votes in the elections and that if they attempt any manipulation, they will take to the streets to fight.

It is noteworthy that earlier, Hayk Marutyan announced he would become mayor and that "Mother Armenia" and "Public Voice" would be in opposition.
