Ministry of Education Announces New Printing Competitions for Books
On September 6, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (MoESCS) announced new competitions for the printing of educational books. ArmLur.am has sent an inquiry to the ministry, asking about the purpose of these new competitions and how justified it is to announce them when the previous ones have not been completed on time nor have they been effective.
The ministry responded to the news agency: “On September 6 of this year, the Republic of Armenia's Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport announced new grant competitions for the creation of textbooks for the 3rd, 6th, and 8th grades, as well as for the missing textbooks for the 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 10th grades, based on the new state standards for general education.”
This implies that the ministry has only on September 6 recognized that new grant competitions are necessary for the missing books. The ministry remains silent, parents are complaining that there are no textbooks available. Teachers are expressing their dissatisfaction with the newly established Emis system, low salaries, and the deteriorating state of the education sector. Meanwhile, Zhanna Andreasian is asking from the podium of the National Assembly that we should not consider these processes as failed.
