Azerbaijan's Aggressive Conduct Poses Threat to Civilian Life Rights, Says Armenia's Ombudsman

The military aggression unleashed by the Azerbaijani armed forces against Stepanakert and other civilian settlements distorts all the values that underpin the modern human rights protection system.

The Armenian Human Rights Defender, Anahit Manasyan, calls on international reputable organizations and actors with a mandate to protect human rights to take immediate action.

According to information shared in open sources, the Azerbaijani armed forces are using various heavy weaponry, including artillery, against the civilian population. Alarms have also been received by the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia regarding these actions.

The Defender emphasizes that the aggressive conduct of the Azerbaijani armed forces grossly violates the principles of international law, posing a real threat to the right to life and security of the civilian population, as well as to the provision of other fundamental rights.

Once again, the Defender reminds that no political or territorial circumstance can take precedence over the protection of human rights. Human rights must be paramount in all situations and in any corner of the world.

The Defender calls on the entire human rights protection community to unite around the implementation of this goal and to prevent the distortion of the modern human rights system.
