Arsen Harutyunyan Becomes World Bronze Medalist

In the nearing conclusion of the World Wrestling Championship in Belgrade, Serbia, three-time European champion Arsen Harutyunyan secured a bronze medal in the 57 kg weight category by decisively defeating Kazakhstan's Meirambek Karbaev with a score of 11:0. This marks Harutyunyan's third bronze medal at world championships.

With this victory, Harutyunyan has also assured his participation in the upcoming 33rd Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Prior to this, shooter Elmira Karapetyan had also earned a quota spot for the Olympics from Armenia.

Harutyunyan began his competition in the qualification round and, after earning confident victories over Ukrainian Kamil Kerimov (14-3), Italian Simone Piroddu (14-2), and Macedonian Vladimir Egorov (11-0), he advanced to the quarterfinals, where he narrowly lost to reigning world champion, Japan's Rei Higuchi, with a score of 14-16.

Earlier today, another of our wrestlers, reigning European champion Vazgen Tevanian (65 kg), is also close to winning a bronze medal. After three impressive victories, he advanced to the semifinals but lost to his opponent and will now fight for the bronze medal.
