We Suggest You Focus on Your Own Affairs: Congo Denies Coup Rumors
The spokesperson of the Congolese government, Thierry Lézin Mungala, has denied rumors of a coup in the country on the X social network (formerly Twitter). According to him, everything is calm in the capital, Brazzaville. Earlier, several media outlets had reported, referencing local sources, about a coup beginning in Brazzaville following the departure of President Denis Sassou Nguesso to New York.
“Incredible information has emerged regarding serious events happening in Brazzaville. The government denies these false reports. We assure the public of the prevailing peace and suggest that residents calmly focus on their own affairs,” the spokesperson wrote.
The Republic of Congo shares a border with Gabon to the west. At the end of August, a coup took place in Gabon, leading to military control. Prior to this, a similar coup occurred in Niger. All of these countries were former French colonies.
