Azerbaijan Abducts New Prisoners of War, Organizes Some Trials: Marukyan
Achieving stable peace with Azerbaijan requires the restoration of trust, for which Baku must release prisoners of war and withdraw its troops to the borders established before 1975. This was stated by Edmond Marukyan, Armenia’s ambassador for special assignments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an interview with TASS.
“To achieve lasting peace, trust must be restored; Azerbaijan must withdraw its troops from Armenian territory to the borders determined in 1975. Moreover, Azerbaijan has failed all processes of exchanging prisoners of war, after which it has been kidnapping new prisoners and organizing some trials. To restore trust, it is necessary to release all prisoners of war,” Marukyan said.
“It is very important for Azerbaijan to take trust-building steps in response to our actions; the process cannot be one-sided,” he emphasized.
According to Marukyan, it is also necessary to unblock the Lachin corridor to restore trust.
