Russian and Armenian People Will Not Allow the Relationship Between the Two Countries to Collapse: Russian Senator

The statements made by the leadership of Armenia do not reflect the thoughts and feelings of the Armenian people towards Russia, nor do they demonstrate the traditionally established level of relations between the countries. This was stated by Russian Senator Alexander Bashkin in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“The actions and words of the Armenian leadership do not express the essence of the relations between the Armenian and Russian peoples. They do not reflect the true and traditionally established level of relationships between Armenia and Russia, so it is necessary to distinguish between what individual politicians, even of very high rank, announce and what ordinary citizens think,” Bashkin said.

In his assessment, some of these statements attempt to complicate relations between the two states. However, he stated that nothing will come of it. “Both the Russian and Armenian peoples appreciate and cherish the relations between our states and will not allow them to collapse, no matter how much they want it in the West,” he added.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had stated that Russian peacekeepers had not fulfilled their mission in Nagorno-Karabakh.
