Hunter Biden Charged: Faces Up to 25 Years in Prison
The son of U.S. President Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, has been charged with illegally acquiring and possessing a firearm while under the influence of narcotics, according to CNN.
According to the television network, the indictment includes two counts related to Hunter Biden allegedly lying about not using drugs when purchasing a gun in 2018. A third count indicates that Hunter Biden possessed a firearm while using drugs. CNN clarifies that both are federal offenses.
The New York Times reports that if Hunter Biden is found guilty, he faces up to 25 years in prison and a $750,000 fine.
The investigation into Hunter Biden began in 2018. During the summer of 2023, the president's son entered into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, wherein he was to plead guilty to two tax violations from 2017-2018. In exchange, the charge of illegally possessing a firearm was to be dropped after two years. However, the deal was not confirmed by the court on July 26, and special prosecutor David Weiss later stated that negotiations had stalled and ceased.
