Death Toll in Libya Reaches 11,300, Search Operations Continue

In the coastal city of Derna, Libya, the death toll from the flooding has reached 11,300, with an additional 10,100 people reported missing. Search operations are ongoing.

In other parts of Libya, 170 people have died due to Storm Daniel. The mayor of Derna has estimated that the death toll could rise to between 18,000 and 20,000.

The World Meteorological Organization has stated that thousands of deaths could have been avoided had there been functioning warning systems in Libya to facilitate evacuations.

The UN has warned that the next threat to the affected populations is diseases that may arise from contaminated water.
