VIDEO: Prime Minister on Turkish Minister's Statement Regarding the 'Zangezur Corridor'

Julya

Any statement that questions the sovereignty or authority of the Republic of Armenia is unacceptable and is considered a "red line" for Armenia, stated Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today during a Q&A session in the National Assembly, responding to a question from Deputy Arusyak Julhakyan of the 'Civil Contract' faction.

The deputy referenced a statement made today by Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, regarding the 'Zangezur Corridor.' The Turkish minister said that in the coming months, the Turkish side would begin work on opening the 'Zangezur Corridor.'

“The trilateral statement only provides for the Lachin corridor with certain restrictions on sovereignty. A corridor through the territory of the Republic of Armenia is not provided for,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

At the same time, the Prime Minister addressed the issue of regional connectivity, emphasizing that Armenia is in favor of reopening the Horadiz–Meghri–Ordubad–Yerasakh railway, considering it an important project for our country. Armenia also supports the opening of regional routes.

“We are in favor of allowing Azerbaijan and Turkey to communicate through the territory of Armenia, and likewise, Nakhichevan and Azerbaijan's western regions should communicate through the territory of Armenia. Are we against regional gas pipelines, oil pipelines, and power lines passing through the territory of Armenia? No, we are not against it; on the contrary, we are interested in these projects and are keen on them. However, all of this must occur within the boundaries of the sovereignty and authority of the Republic of Armenia,” the Prime Minister highlighted.

He also reminded that there has been a proposal for a while now on the government's agenda to open three crossing points on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border: one at Nakhichevan and two at the borders with Azerbaijan's western regions.

Earlier, we reported that Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, announced that in the coming months, the Turkish side would begin efforts to open the 'Zangezur Corridor.'
