The U.S. Will Continue to Unwaveringly Support Armenia and Azerbaijan's Efforts: Matthew Miller

The United States is deeply concerned about the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, stated U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

“We reiterate our call, as well as the Secretary of State’s statement made over the weekend, for the immediate and simultaneous opening of the Lachin and Aghdam routes,” Miller said.

“We urge the leaders, as the Secretary of State has in his calls, not to take any actions that would escalate tensions or divert from this goal,” emphasized the State Department spokesperson.

Miller also noted that the official Washington does not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent and sovereign state and therefore does not recognize the presidential elections held there recently.

The spokesperson emphasized that the United States will continue to unwaveringly support Armenia and Azerbaijan's efforts to resolve existing issues through direct dialogue. For this reason, Secretary of State Blinken and Senior Advisor Lu Bono have been consistently engaged and will continue to be involved in this matter.
