Ohanian: The Reason for Not Congratulating the President of Artsakh is Not the Result, But the Fears They Have
The Russian cargo transported to Artsakh via the Aknaghbyur road may somewhat alleviate the humanitarian crisis that has arisen in Artsakh. This was stated today by Seyran Ohanian, the head of the "Armenia" parliamentary faction, during a briefing with journalists in the National Assembly.
“No matter how much we say that the spirit of the people of Artsakh is high, there is a humanitarian crisis there; such actions can somewhat reduce the impact of the humanitarian crisis. Especially since this vehicle's movement will allow the Lachin corridor to be completely opened,” Ohanian said.
In his view, since a Russian vehicle has entered Artsakh through that route, the issue of opening the Lachin road can also be raised before the Russian authorities, so that they can take practical and clear steps to compel Azerbaijan to open the road. He believes that under current conditions, where the Armenian authorities have washed their hands of Artsakh, it should become a more independent and free factor to dictate its interests to Azerbaijan in international relations.
Regarding the changes in Artsakh's governance system, Ohanian assessed them positively. He is confident that significant changes and skilled, correct tactical steps are necessary to bring Artsakh out of this situation.
“Artsakh is part of our people, and the Republic of Artsakh is a legitimate republic that has self-determined. Despite everything, our country's leaders should have congratulated the President of Artsakh. I believe the reason for not congratulating is not the result but the fears they have. They are afraid of international agreements that they may have made with Azerbaijan,” Ohanian noted, referring to the fact that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not congratulate the newly elected President of Artsakh, Samvel Shahramanyan. On September 11, in an interview with Public Television, the Prime Minister mentioned that there was not much to congratulate on.
Ohanian reminded that the Armenian authorities have recognized Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, including Artsakh. Nonetheless, according to Ohanian, even in this situation, courageous leaders would congratulate the newly elected President of Artsakh.
It is noteworthy that on September 9, the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh elected Samvel Shahramanyan, the former Secretary of the Security Council, as the President in an extraordinary session. We have reported that on September 12, through the Russian Red Cross, humanitarian cargo entered the Republic of Artsakh with the permission of its authority via the town of Askeran. The cargo truck contained 1000 food packages, 192 children's sets, 270 bedding sets, and 200 hygiene kits.
