Why Has the Police Set Up Roadblocks on Routes Entering Yerevan?

Social media users have been circulating information that the police have set up roadblocks on routes entering Yerevan, and various justifications are being presented in this regard. The Police of the Republic of Armenia has provided clarification on the matter.

The police stated that from September 11 to 15, an international anti-drug operation called "Canal-Interruption" is being conducted throughout Armenia, with its coordinating headquarters located in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The operation aims to prevent the smuggling of drugs into the CSTO responsibility zone, identify criminal groups engaged in the illegal drug trade, dismantle the financial foundations of illegal drug trafficking, as well as seize drugs, weapons, and explosives.

"The operation is being conducted throughout Armenia and at all border checkpoints," the message said.
