We Must Separate the Return of Prisoners from the Imprisonment of My Father's Killer: Son of the Slain Guard of ZPMC

After the previous court hearing, we submitted an appeal to the Court of Appeal, as the 20-year imprisonment of my father's killer is not enough for us. This was stated by Georges Meliksetyan, the son of the slain guard of the Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine (ZPMC), Hayrapet Meliksetyan, in an interview with MediaHub, discussing the court's decision to sentence the Azerbaijani serviceman Huseyn Akhundov to 20 years in prison for killing his father.

“At this moment, I cannot say anything definite, but I hope they will take our complaint into account and impose a life sentence. In our complaint, we have also clearly stated that the killer should be separated from our compatriots who are prisoners in Azerbaijan. We are not saying that the return of prisoners is not important to us, but this issue is on a completely different level,” he said in the interview.

It is noteworthy that on April 10, two Azerbaijani servicemen crossed the state border of Armenia. On April 18, the Prosecutor's Office charged one of them, Huseyn Akhundov, with the murder of the ZPMC guard. According to the department, the Azerbaijani fired shots at the guard with an illegally held automatic weapon, which resulted in the guard's death. Then, Huseyn Akhundov took the guard's phone, cigarettes, and lighter, attempted to start the engine of a parked vehicle but, unable to do so, fled the scene. Akhundov also recorded a video message with that phone stating that he had killed an Armenian.
