Prisoner Exchange Between Iran and the U.S. Expected Soon, Says Nasser Kanaani

A prisoner exchange between Iran and the United States is set to take place soon. This information was shared by Nasser Kanaani, the official spokesperson of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, during a weekly press briefing.

On August 10, the 'New York Times' reported, citing sources, that Iran and the U.S. had struck a deal regarding the exchange of prisoners, while Tehran would gain access to $6 billion in frozen assets for humanitarian purposes.

According to Iranian sources, the funds will be transferred from Iranian frozen accounts in South Korea and deposited into a bank account in Qatar.

Adrian Watson, a spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, stated that currently, five individuals with dual U.S.-Iranian nationality, previously accused of espionage, have already been released from prison and are under house arrest in Iran. As part of the deal, the U.S. is also expected to return five citizens to Iran.
