Elections in Russia: Almost All Voters in Kherson Region Vote with Russian Passports
For the first time in years, elections are being held in Russian regions that include the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, as well as the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. In the Kherson region, individuals arriving at polling stations are voting using the passport of the Russian Federation. This was reported by Yevgeny Shevchenko, a member of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, at the Commission's information center.
“And one very important observation that everyone saw at the polling stations: despite the fact that according to the decisions of the legislative authorities of the Russian Federation, regional legislative acts, and decisions of the election commission, our citizens voting in the Kherson region are permitted to present other documents as identification, apart from the passport of the Russian Federation, we note that almost everyone coming to the polling station shows their Russian passports,” said Shevchenko, who is currently in the Kherson region overseeing the polling station.
Elections in Russian regions are being held from September 8 to 10, with the first-time participation of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, as well as the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. In total, elections at various levels are set to take place in 85 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. It is noteworthy that elections for high-ranking officials are being conducted in 21 regions, while elections for legislators are occurring in 20 entities.
