VIDEO: Storm Daniel in Greece Claims 6 Lives and Causes Billions in Damage
Following the weakening of the "Daniel" storm that lashed Greece for three days, the damage caused by torrential rains is becoming evident. The floods, which have claimed the lives of 6 individuals, have inflicted billions of euros in damage across central regions of the country. This was reported by Reuters.
As of September 8, hundreds of people remained trapped in their homes. The floods have swept away houses, destroyed vital infrastructure, and damaged agricultural lands. According to the fire department, more than 1,800 people have been rescued from affected areas since September 7, while 150 individuals in a nearby village of Karditsa awaited assistance for three days.
Meteorologists reported that the region experienced more rainfall in 24 hours than London does in an entire year. The "Daniel" storm followed a summer marked by wildfires and record high temperatures. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is scheduled to visit the flood-affected areas on September 8.
