Minister: 'We have given clear instructions that parents should not participate in copying absent textbooks.'

In the context of implementing new state educational standards across all schools in Armenia, clear instructions have been given to schools that parents should not participate in copying certain pages of absent textbooks for the 2nd, 5th, and 7th grades. This was stated by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport, Zhanna Andreasyan, during a meeting of the permanent commission of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on science, education, culture, diaspora, youth and sport.

“I think this is a minor difficulty that we all need to understand. We are making a very important change. We have embarked on the path of creating new textbooks, which has not been implemented in the country for about 15 years. I believe we all need to have patience. We will not create ideal textbooks in one day. I also consider this an experiment. Our teachers will use the textbooks in the classrooms, and we will closely monitor any emerging issues, which we will then refine,” said the minister.

According to her, in the first working day after September 1, different versions of textbooks for the 5th and 7th grades have arrived in schools. “I had the opportunity to see them in the school because I was at the Katnaghbyur school on that day. A new batch of books will be sent to schools tomorrow. By the end of this month, we will have all the textbooks,” the minister stated.

She also emphasized that all textbooks are available in electronic format. It should be noted that last year the standards were piloted in the Tavush region, after which appropriate adjustments were made. In preparation for the implementation of the standards, training sessions were held with school teachers, and a list of method schools was established.
