Armenian Weightlifter Withdraws from World Championship Competition; Reason Revealed
At the World Weightlifting Championship taking place in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, Armenia's first participant Izabella Yailyan suffered an injury and left the competition.
In the group A competition for the 55 kg weight category, the Tokyo Olympic participant and bronze medalist of Europe Yailyan injured her elbow during her first lift in the snatch event. The Armenian representative had ordered 85 kg for her first attempt. Shortly after, Yailyan withdrew from further competition.
Member of the Armenian national team, Liana Gyurjyan, announced during an Instagram live that Izabella Yailyan had traveled to Saudi Arabia with an elbow injury. Currently, the competition in the 55 kg weight category is ongoing, where Aleksandra Grigoryan is also participating. In the snatch event, Grigoryan finished her attempts at 83 kg but only successfully completed her first lift. She failed the 86 kg attempts that she ordered for the second and third lifts.
