Spain's Women's National Team Coach Dismissed Amid Scandalous Kiss
The head coach of Spain's women's football national team, Jorge Vilda, has been dismissed from his position. Under his leadership, the national team won the women's World Cup in 2023 for the first time in history. The Spaniards triumphed in the playoffs against Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and England.
Vilda had been coaching the Spain women's team for eight years (since 2015). It is important to note that he had previously expressed his support for the president of the federation, Luis Rubiales, who has found himself at the center of a scandal.
Rubiales kissed midfielder Jenni Hermoso on the lips after the Spanish players claimed victory in the women's World Cup final on August 20. While Rubiales claims that the kiss was consensual, Hermoso insists otherwise.
The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, has been removed from any form of football activities at both national and international levels during a disciplinary process. FIFA has announced that the suspension lasts for 90 days, starting from August 26.
