Russia Seeks Clarification from Armenia on Ratification of the Rome Statute
Moscow has requested clarifications from Yerevan regarding the ratification of the Rome Statute by the Armenian Parliament, said Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, at a press briefing.
“We have already requested clarifications on this matter from the Armenian side and will determine our further steps based on the content of Yerevan's response,” she noted.
It is remembered that Armenia signed the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court on October 1, 1999, but has not ratified it. The process was halted on August 13, 2004, when the document was deemed inconsistent with the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.
Considering that the Constitution has been amended twice since then, Nikol Pashinyan's government decided to resume the ratification process of the international treaty and applied to the Constitutional Court once again for this purpose.
On March 24, the Constitutional Court of Armenia ruled that Armenia's accession to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court is in accordance with the current Constitution.
On September 1, it was revealed that the Armenian government submitted the Rome Statute to the National Assembly for ratification.
