No Threat to the Lives of Servicemen Injured by Azerbaijani Fire, Ombudsman
On the instructions of the Human Rights Defender, representatives of the office visited the Central Clinical Military Hospital of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia to meet with two servicemen injured during Azerbaijan's aggressive actions towards the villages of Sotk and Norabak in Gegharkunik Province on September 1.
During the visit, questions regarding the health status and treatment process of the injured servicemen were discussed with the hospital’s medical staff. According to the doctors’ assessment, the lives of the servicemen are not currently in danger.
A personal conversation was held with one of the injured servicemen, including a family member. The serviceman recounted that on September 1, he was stationed at one of the combat posts located towards the village when early in the morning, Azerbaijani armed forces began firing intensively using various calibers of weaponry. It was during this time, while ensuring the safety of the border population of Armenia, that he sustained his injury.
The information collected is being summarized by the Human Rights Defender's office for submission to international partners and other relevant bodies. The health status of the servicemen is under the immediate attention of the Defender.
The Human Rights Defender once again emphasizes that the actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces grossly violate the principles of international law. The aggressive actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces towards the settlements of Armenia also aim to terrorize the civilian population, keeping them in a constant state of stress and anxiety, thereby infringing upon the life and other fundamental rights of Armenian servicemen who ensure the safety of the population.
